The Palm Springs International Film Festival is the largest of its kind in North America and one of the most recognized and successful among Film Fests worldwide. Boasting an attendance of over 135,000 each year, it is a must-go event for moviegoers and Hollywood elite alike. It all started in 1990 when Sonny Bono realized a film festival would be the perfect event to turn Palm Springs into a year-round tourist destination, and he was right! The PSIFF was extremely successful its first year, attracting more than 17,000 people, garnering media attention and gaining the support of sponsors who still work with them to this day. The festival went on to award world-renowned talents Jimmy Stewart in 1992, and Frank Sinatra and Marcello Mastroianni in 1993 putting the PSIFF and Palm Springs on the map.
