Plan a visit to Palm Springs this December to enjoy some holiday magic in the bright Southern California sunshine. The annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade has been held in downtown Palm Springs on the first Saturday in December since the 1990s. The Parade was rated one of America's top 10 holiday parades in an AOL Survey, and is a can't miss event for residents and visitors of all ages. According to Mary Jo Gunther, director of the Palm Springs Bureau for Tourism, "there's no other special event in the Coachella Valley quite like it!" Here's what you need to know to make the most of the parade on Saturday, December 1st.

About the Parade

Approximately 100,000 people visit the Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade annually, bringing a festive cheer and celebratory spirit to downtown Palm Springs. In addition to signature Macy's style floats, the parade features marching bands, performance groups, and holiday characters. Come wave to Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Snoopy, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus, enjoy the music of local marching bands, or appreciate the majesty of Clydesdale horses walking in rhythm to your favorite holiday tunes.

Parade Tips for the Most Holiday Fun

This year's 26th annual Festival of Lights parade will begin promptly at 5:45 pm at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive, and will proceed northbound on Palm Canyon Drive. Don't be late - make sure to arrive at least an hour early to get the best parking and viewing spots! The Palm Springs Festival of Lights welcome guests of all mobility levels, and seating is available on a first come, first serve basis on the bleachers on Amado Road. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome along the parade route. Make sure to bring a jacket, as the parade will be held rain or shine, and desert nights are very cool in the Coachella Valley.
