Glitz, glamour, and fame.

Palm Springs has seen plenty of all three during its rich history, given its long standing status as ... "The Playground of the Stars." Today, visitors not only have a chance to encounter their favorite actors, musicians, and other famous personalities, but thanks to the Palm Spring History Society they can also walk in the footsteps of the entertainment legends that made the Golden Era golden.

The PSHS offers nine different walking tours, each exploring a different element of the city. Each tour shares a flair for the famous, but they go beyond that providing a look at the history, culture, and design of a city known as an escape from La La Land. Silent film heartthrob Rudolph Valentino began the celebrity surge to Palm Springs, but it was the arrival of the Rat Pack that truly set the tone for the area and that time period is well represented during the informative tours.

Stars of yesterday, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Katherine Hepburn, Gene Autry, and Cary Grant owned homes in Palm Springs, just as current movers and shakers like Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey Jr., and Reese Witherspoon do today. Many of these homes were created in the Modernist architecture style which is more prevalent in Palm Springs than anywhere else in the world.

The walking tours also explore sites such as famous honeymoon hideaways, and celebrated wedding venues showcased in tabloids. Stroll through the exclusive Palm Springs Tennis Club neighborhood as it lays snug in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. The very neighborhood that captured the allure of stars like Errol Flynn, Lucille Ball, and Frank Sinatra who all stayed and played in the spectacular beauty of its desert surroundings. Today's Hollywood hipsters still flock to this celebrity haven, and so can you.

The nine unique tours cover a variety of neighborhoods and focus not only the Hollywood and Music Royalty that called them home, but also the varied architectural designs of the city. The tours are by special appointment only during summer months, with a regular schedule beginning in October of each year, but no matter when you visit, be sure to check out Mod Mansions Vacation Rentals for your lodging needs.
