The Windmills of Palm Springs

Alternative renewable energy sources are needed more than ever, and windmills in Palm Springs are addressing that need.

The San Gorgonio wind farm, an ideal location due to the windy conditions in the San Gorgonio Pass, built its first windmills in the 1980s. Today it hosts over 4,000 wind turbines, which supply enough electricity for all of Coachella Valley and Palm Springs.

Seeing these wind turbines in person is an awesome experience - standing at a height of up to 150-feet tall with blades the length of half a football field, these slim, light-looking turbines actually weigh up to 45,000 pounds.
