It's no secret that Palm Springs enjoys a thriving art and cultural scene. One of the many havens for art-lovers is the Backstreet Art District, located on Cherokee Way. This thriving community features a range of art galleries running the gamut of artistic styles and mediums. In a typical visit to the Art District, you can expect to not only admire the works but also to meet the artists. Often, you'll even have the chance to watch the creative process unfold as the artists work in their studios.

General hours for the galleries are Wednesday through Saturday10 AM to 4 PM, but individual artists may set their own hours. One of the best times to visit is the first Wednesday of any month. On these days, the district hosts First Wednesday Art Walks, which feature live music entertainment and the chance to tour all of the galleries. The Art Walks also offer fun events such as adult scavenger hunts.

Some of the popular stops include:

  • Artize Gallery - This local favorite displays art from an array of contemporary artists, including photographerssculptors, and painters.
  • Taylor Mickle Photography - Mickle's unconventional photography plays with scale, depicting such topics as dioramas and circular panoramas. Her works are sure to surprise and delight.
  • David A. Clark Studio - Currently showcasing the work of three artists, don't be surprised to find a variety of colorful printed works and multi-medium pieces. It's also possible to take classes here if you want to try your hand at printmaking.

Of course, with a dozen galleries and displays ranging from jewelry pieces to monographs, you're sure to find something that suits your taste (and perhaps even your budget!)

Art-lovers simply must fit Backstreet Art District into their next Palm Springs vacation. For more information on the Palm Springs community or to inquire about rentals to make your next trip possible, be sure to contact us.
