A true adventure is to explore Modernism Week Palm Springs. The Modernism events occur twice a year - once in mid October (Fall Preview) and the weeklong event in mid February. If you appreciate mid-century design and architecture and enjoy home tours that showcase contemporary design, art, fashion, and sustainable modern living, Modernism is not to be missed.
This year there is a vintage travel trailer show and many other exhibitions to see and explore. My favorite is to participate in the walking home tours, which allows for some exercise while walking and exploring beautiful Palm Springs.
Additionally, the very chic “Uptown Design District” of Palm Springs features a special evening event “Uptown Lights Up the Night” Enjoy a stroll in this celebrated shopping district and discover interesting and unique decor, fashion, art, food and drink. On October 12, 2014, there will be a special “tiki re-lighting ceremony” at “The Twist” (former home to Don the Beachcomber) to celebrate the opening of this completely renovated apartment and retail complex. Check it all out - there will be lots of specialty cocktails, music, shopping, drawings and fun for all!
October and February weather in the desert is amazing - not too hot nor too cool. Modernism exposes the truly creative minds embracing and preserving modern architecture in the desert. The modern design vibe can truly be seen in the stylized refined architecture, and the furnishings are really cool - I personally love the pop of vibrant color used throughout. The best part is that proceeds from Modernism Week establish scholarships to local design and architectural colleges and go towards preserving the modernist architecture movement.
And if you like classic Mid-Century homes check out Mod Mansions’ “Meiselman House”, a quintessential example of mid-century brought back to life through a complete remodel with attention to the details. The guest reviews say it all! Click here to view the Meiselman House
