One of the favorite events of the week is the Palm Springs Modernism Show and Sale, which runs from February 17-19 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Design movements throughout the 20th century will be represented by 85 premier designers showing and offering selections of furniture, accessories and fine arts.
Another highly anticipated event is the Modernism Week Show House: The Christopher Kennedy Compound. Unique interiors created by 20 of the country's most influential designers will be showcased, opening with a red carpet gala on the 18th. There you'll enjoy music, cocktails and tastings alongside television celebrities and prominent designers.
Speaking of designers, the hottest interior design team in Palm Springs - H3K Design - is celebrating the opening of their showroom at the corner of Ramon and South Palm Canyon during Modernism. On Saturday, February 18 they will be hosting the Set Decorators' Society of America Modernism Week event featuring Hollywood set decorators from "Masters of Sex" and "Passengers", moderated by Cathy Whitlock, author of "Designs on Film - A Century of Hollywood Art Direction". On Saturday, February 26 stop by 8am-12noon for the Modernism Yard Sale in the H3K parking lot - both events are not to be missed!
Exciting places rarely seen or experienced by the public are also on the agenda - how about a fun party at the Museum of Pinball (a best-kept secret of midcentury modern revival), where you can enjoy free play on over 700 restored vintage pinball and arcade machines. Other events also take place in important historic buildings rarely open to the public.
Enhance your experience with a variety of tours by bike, double-decker buses or on foot to iconic homes in more than 25 neighborhoods as well as the historic Annenberg Estate at Sunnylands. Garden tours, food and wine tastings, nightly parties, photography exhibits, architectural tours, classic car shows, and even a vintage travel trailer exhibit are part of the festivities. And don't forget to check out the series of highly informative talks and panel discussions as well as film screenings, including premieres of such films as Harry Seidler – Modernist, Windshield – A Vanished Vision, and Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw The Future.
