Surfing in the Desert? Yes!
The Palm Springs Surf Club recently opened allowing you to practice and master your A-frame. While not yet offering surfing lessons, it provides various intermediate sessions. Public sessions mean you surf with 9-12 other people for one hour. Or, create your own party by booking a private session with up to 12 surfing friends; you’ll have the pool to yourselves. Waves range from 2- 7 feet, with each ride extending 7-11 seconds. If you’re surfing during the “winter” months of Palm Springs, note that the wave pool isn’t heated. Hint: reservations are required and the dates sell out quickly!
Lounging by the Pool & Floating Down the River
If surfing is not your style, plan a day of it by floating down the temperature-controlled lazy river. Or, take a dip in the heated pool or just lounge in the sun. Or, enjoy a cocktail from one of three bars. Cabanas and daybeds are also available for rent. A general admission ticket is required. The cost is $20 per person with advance reservations or $25 at the gate.
Surfs Up, Food’s Up
The Club boasts two restaurants: Amala for fine dining and Drifters for a more casual and poolside experience. Nestled with clear views of the San Jacinto mountains, dining here is a treat. No separate general admission ticket is required if you’re coming for dinner at Amala.
A Little Background
The Palm Springs Surf Club is built on the former location of the Wet N’ Wild waterpark. Envisioned by Cheyne Magnusson, who created Waco Surf in Waco, Texas, the idea evolved into its current club.
